Porcelain geometry, cold to the soles of the bare feet, dashing toward the TV on a Saturday morning. Mother and grandmother humming, breakfast pan sizzling. Cartoons blaring out a melody of their own. A piece of egg, as liquid as molten gold, plops onto the tiles of the kitchen floor. No matter. Grandmother wipes it away at the end of breakfast, spine creaking as she bends to reach the floor. The children have no cares but for the TV and the buttered, egg-y toast that their mother places in front of them. Eat, eat, they say.
