The church potluck table is set with the white paper table cloths fastened to the scared tan metal legs of the ancient pressboard devices.  They must weigh 70 lbs apiece and that's without the 4 plates of deviled eggs layed out like a poor man's oysters on a half shell.  The yellow of the hard boiled yolk rises from its spongy egg white vessel like fiery yellow lava streaked with the orange shakings of paprika.  Uncle Nelson swipes one and immediately delivers it into his mouth

There is a bluegrass song to be written about how all the devils hang out at church.

Church eggs are all bedeviled
Can't go straight, always the rebel
Just can't settle on a recipe.
You think you're clever if you use horseradish
But if it don't turn out tabasco's faddish
There'll never be an egg to satisfy me.

Seeking peace to ponder the gospel
But Iím thinking of eggs and it's just awful
I just know Miss Fannyís going to show me up.
I remember the year I tried Worcestershire,
She hit me with dijon with a capers chaser
She gets me every time and it drive me nuts.

Love it.

Chorus

So I'll keep pinin'
For Jesus comin'
And the fire that's gonna set ol Fanny runnin'

Yes I'll keep pinin'
For Jesus comin'
I'll be deviled if my eggs ain't what he's wantin'

So the very next time Itís a Christian potluck
Let the chickens lay and the foxes have an egg glut,
You wonít catch me bringing them from my home.
Tuna surprise or potato salad
Or a dull pound cake will be my ballad
Let Fanny bring the eggs to the devil on his throne.

Very cool!  Great to hear what your verse melody was.  I'll send you something later with what I was thinking for the chorus.  Great job.

Did a rewrite:

Church eggs are all bedeviled
Can't go straight, always the rebel
Just can't settle on a recipe.
You think you're clever if you use horseradish
But on the potluck table, tabasco's faddish.
Thereís no spice can cool my egg envy.

Seeking peace to ponder the gospel
But Iím thinking of eggs and it's just awful
I just know Miss Fannyís going to show me up.
I remember the year that I tried Worcestershire,
She did dejion with a cappers chaser
She gets me every time and it drive me nuts.

So I'll keep pinin'
For Jesus comin'
Those deviled eggs ain't worth the burniní

Yes I'll keep pinin'
For Jesus comin'
And the fire that's gonna set ol Fanny runnin'

The very next time itís a Christian potluck
Let the chickens lay so the foxes lap an egg glut,
You wonít catch me bringing them from my home.
Tuna surprise or potato salad
Or a dull pound cake will be my ballad
Let Fanny lay her eggs on the devilís throne.

Good. I could not think of a way to reference Satan's Jeweled Crown melodically. Maybe this one would be easier and better.  https://youtu.be/WMPZ-hvwqwg

Chris,

Here's my run at it.  I took a bit of a light hearted approach to it.  Not sure of your original intentions, but I would love to hear your thoughts.  I am having quite a bit of fun doing this.

Lyrics

V1
Them old Church eggs are all bedeviled
I Can't go straight, always the rebel
Just can't settle on a any single recipe.
Thought I's clever when I used horseradish
But the potluck table had a hot sauce fettish
There ain't no spice to cool my egg envy

V2
So I'm Seeking peace to ponder the gospel
But I'm thinking bout eggs and it's just awful
And how Miss Fanny's gonna come and show me up
Thought I had her last year with Worcestershire
but She used Dijon with a capers chaser
"Every dang time!" and it's bout to drive me nuts

Chorus 1
So I'll keep pinin'
For Jesus comin'
And the fire that's gonna set ol Fanny runnin'

So I'll keep pinin'
For Jesus comin'
Keep prayin' my eggs are what He'll wanna eat

V3
Those daggone eggs ain't worth the burnin'
So at potluck time when my blood starts churnin'
You won't catch me bringing them from my home
Tuna surprise or potato salad
Or a dull pound cake will be my ballad
Fanny you can lay her eggs on the devilís throne

Chorus 2 and 3
So I'll keep pinin' (Echo: I'll keep pinin')
For Jesus comin' (Echo: For Jesus comin')
And the fire that's gonna set ol Fanny runnin'

So I'll keep pinin' (Echo: You'll keep pinin')
For Jesus comin' (Echo: For Jesus comin')
My tuna surprise is what He'll wanna eat (2nd and 3rd time)
