Treating the deck in an outcome
An outcome of many steps
Clearing the chairs and the doghouse
The powerwash and the gut check.

Will it be dry, is there sun
Can it be done before the picnic
Itís got to be summer or leaves will stick
Stick before it is dry.

Every job takes twice as long
As you think when one third is done
Work in the morningís relative cool
Goes quick before the heat of the sun.

The heat of the sun, demands of thirst
The ache in each of the knees
The slop of the brush, lay it on thick
But the dogs both want to see.

So play with the dogs out on the leads
Then crouch again to the deck
Plank by plank the treatment goes on
No rain in the forecast.

The last of the work (the rails can wait)
Is painting out of a corner
Back to the door, the tub on the rug
Paint work is barely in reach.
