Thereís no ticket at the station, no slip for your seat
Itís all automatic nowadays
Slap down a card, the turnstile just slides
Slap it down and youíre on your way.

There used to be a token, a ticket you could buy
There used to be a ticket for every ride
Stand in line for the ticket then wait for the train
It was once a double wait game.

A conductor with a mustache and a ticket punch
That was the old way too
Now itís Acela, no time for all that
The train too fast to let him through.

The scrapbook is empty, stubs are gone away
In a world with electric pay
Itís only the lottery with a paper trail
Now what is scrapbook about that?

Hold a ticket, fray the edge with a nail
Grip it hard while waiting for the train
It ainít bound for glory, itís just on the rails
And youíre anxious to be moving on.
