They call me doctor sometimes
Though I only heal with love
Tame a dog thatís gone wild
Heal a wifeís childhood.

They call me doctor sometimes
But itís just a PhD
No scalpel or surgery
No needle nurse for me.

I donít have a nurse
I donít smell like antiseptic
Some days I donít even shower
When the weatherís cool.

Iím not up in your face
Donít show a bedside manner
Iím not whom you hope for
When you want a doctor.

But still I know a few things
And sometimes Iíve known them first
Someoneís got to do it
Thatís how discovery works.

And now Iím writing new songs
And learning music too
Old guys donít do new math
But they can do new tunes.

There arenít too many surgeons
Whoíll cure you with a song
Take away your sorrow
Bring your joy along.

So maybe this doctor
Will still heal a few
Singing out the memories
Curing them old blues.
