You get a rush of pure excitement
Every time you take a bite.
The sugary sensation
Makes your soul take flight.
The jam oozes from the dough
Straight on to your tongue
You set yourself a challenge
You have tried since you were young
To see if you are strong enough
To see if you can endure
No one that you know has made it
No one that you know is pure.
The simplest of challenges
Yet everyone still slips.
You have to eat the entire donut
Without ever licking your lips.
You seem to get quite far this time,
Yet ultimately you stumble
As the thought of the slightest crumb untouched
Makes your stomach start to rumble.
