The thick, wet line ran from inside out, ending in a gentle upward curve that narrowed to a point made by a technician. He had done this before. The near-black stripe of coal ash, graphite or perhaps dirt, refined by machine or lethargic worms, somehow conveyed his availability, his interest in sex, his rebellion against God, rules and his oppressive upbringing. Like the pinstripe on a street racer, observers quickly understood that mascara and exposed muscle were bait, an invitation to enjoy something carnal, something that twisting, sweaty youthful bodies crave. Not speed or reproduction per se, just hot, experimental sex.
