Caterpillars swarm on leaves
Chomping and dropping their litter
Bristles line in ranks down their flanks
Spots of brightest yellow.

Tent caterpillars denuding the branch
Caterpillars stripping the tree
Turning the popular to its Winter guise
The end of the silver backed leaves.

Tent is the name for their spun web
Itís clotted with eggs to disgorge
A bigger plague of wriggling things
That cross to the next tree and more.

Sometimes the sidewalks will become slick
With their trodden innards in splotches
Green guts spread on the ground
Too thick to avoid the soft squish.
