River’s end, old New Orleans
The town where the mint
Got a new flag torn to shreds
Where Farragut hung a traitor.

Screening a river is a Navy job
New Orleans makes quite a base
To choke out confederates, stop their supplies
New Orleans was the town to take.

Skirmish in Virginia, stage land battles
Charge through the Wilderness
Antietam, Frederick, Gettysburg
But New Orleans had to be firm.

So Farragut hung the slimy traitor
Though he fought for the other side
He ripped down the flag from the Federal building
So he swung by the neck ‘till he died.
