Always a ding, a ding early on
A new car, a mark three days in
A little collision at the post office
On the bumper, so really no harm.

Humility, thatís the lesson
A new car canít stay shiny forever
Three days of pride, thatís all it took
And the pride is all washed away.

Yesterday, the old Ďninety-nine
Got admired in the lot at Safeway
Covered with leaves, wasps by the gas cap
It still drives and runs like a breeze.

Two hundred and forty, thousand that is
Blue Escort that thinks itís a truck
That little ding back from day three
You canít see it under the muck.

Humility has its own pride
Look! Though Iím old, I made it through
I may be parked for months at a time
But I drive and can haul a canoe.
