Fresh cut grass with neat cookie-cutter, spade shaped leaves in shades of orange and red decorating the knoll.  Polished trees and baskets of flowers somehow still in bloom hanging from poles alongside the flawless, smooth brick path.  Life there was a bowling alley, and I was just a ball carelessly thrown into the future, bouncing off the bumpers of rules and routines and programs and grades and lectures and bad advice, hoping one day to strike a pin or two of fortune and fame.

This is the real world she said.  The words rang hollow as I looked around at the vast expanse of artificial beauty, products of unknown amounts of pesticides and fertilizers and all of the dormitories so close in proximity ... sights I'd never really seen in the real world, you know, where I came from.  A chill raises my skin.
