I reach my hand down into the cold murky water, feel the chills bite my hand and sting my nerve cells in my skin. slow, steady and choppy are the subtle currents in this particular pool of water. I hear the voices of kids laughing, screaming without regard for people around them. I guide my hand towards the area where the little baby eel is coddled, cowering in a crevice as if waiting for rescue from a parent who's nowhere to be found. My right index finger makes progress towards the restive body of the little creature, each second my heart rate increasing by a tad bit. As i get really close i hold my breath and finally cross the line into full physical contact with the slimy creature. The eel wiggles a bit at my first touching but remains in its place, firmly tucked between a rock and a hard place. I decide to let the little guy alone, put my goggles and snorkel back on, go pro in my hand and jump into the next pool of water.
