Stillness weaves through the dry ferns, leaves and red oak trees. The sun blasting it's way  into the opening of the northern california forest makes it a gentle pleasure on the eyes. Within the cracks of bark and musty hard edged lumber are crawlers with many legs and critters with a taste for home. Unfortunately they may not be around to enjoy another day of air the lengthy timber provides. Just about a mile or so from here there was a spark, and then a flame, a fern engulfed, and then another. The sun still blasting, undeterred, it can't see what it may have done. Critters and crawlers near the heat feel it's brute intensity begin to rise upward to the sky. They bound, leap, and scatter.
