Resting my hand on the coffee mug, warmth jumps from mug to my hand like a herd of wildebeests. From the liquid, the aroma seems to run directly to my nose. Caramel, hazelnut, and leather notes tempt me to drink it. When I ground the coffee this morning it’s flavors were stronger and more distinct, but now they’ve melded in the pot. Using a subtle blowing motion, I cool the top just enough to drink. Finally, I taste my first sip. Though the caffeine has not hit me yet, my body reacts to its imminent arrival, intoxicating subtlety and waking me from my slumber. The gurgle of the coffeemaker and loud buzz of the grinder signaled the coffees arrival, and now its here.
