Itís hot on the water, hot in the sun
Wearing a bass fisherís vest
In the bow, a one year old, still half a pup
In the shade of his umbrella.

The dragonflies are missiles in tracks above the stream
The lotus leaves float from their stems
Heat from the sun, heat from the air
But the dog is OK under there.

Wild rice is getting tall like the corn on the land
Fish rise for a snack here and there
Heat on the water in a red canoe
Summer grows the harvest full.

In Minnesota they fight for the rice
Waters where it grows time for time
Here we just want the placid waters clean
So a dog can take shade in the bow.
