Accumulation like a workbench
This file, that book, some journal
Laid out where they might be found
In a moment, or an hourís searching.

This is their clutter, this is the mess
That lets the mind clear the sluices
The clear concentration in the nest
Of piles of papers and notes.

Bury the world in billboard signs
Litter the roadside with trash
All distraction from nature pristine
Not so for an astronomerís desk.

So much to measure and enter in tables
So many tables to read
Accumulation of centuries of notes
Thatís what piles a desk.

So make the desk large, the hard drive immense
The CPUs fast and plenty
Consume the universe down to size
In an office with a sky survey in it.
