I step inside the chalky red ring of the hula hoop and crouch down. My fingers curl around the worn, grazed plastic -- the burrs on the plastic tubing are both rough and fuzzy. I pull the hoop against my lower back, trying to remember which way to toss the ring. I swiftly jerk the hoop to the left, but it bounces off my hips as they spastically lounge out in the wrong direction. The red ring ricochets off the pavers and the few pebbles and grit inside the plastic tube rattle. A wave of dizziness and then my cheeks flush hot and red...
