Tiptoe secretly across the narrow hallway, using every available muscle to not make a sound. Ghosts and demons are close, but they cannot find us if we stay elevated, balancing. The floor is lava. They are electricity, if we keep from being grounded, they canít shock us. Swirling around us their tentacle fingers reaching out to touch us like rotten bananas from a tornado of trash. The rancid smell chokes my lungs, and I stumble. Cartwheeling to keep my balance, blind and terrified. Guided only by touch and a sword to balance. Theyíre only visible out of the corner of my eye, but thatís their trick. If you turn to look, youíll fall. ďDonít look left. Donít look right. And most definitely: donít look down,Ē I think, but I realize Iím already tumbling. Like a falling coffee thermos in slow motion, emotions  shaken out of my eyes in tears. Taking form and swirling around me. Reaching out their rancid tentacles. How long have I been falling?
