Lying sequestered in the bottom of my oven-hot beach bag, occluded by the warm rugged soft mess of accoutrement and beach regular equipment, the chap stick is sticky, melting out the winding path of tracks that connects the cap to the body, trickling slowly like the goo of a slug, gripping and tacking to my fingers, as wafts of strawberry float like gentle airborne flower perfumes, mixing with the chemical fume smell of sunscreen. The strawberry melts in my mouth from my lips, sweet and sugary somehow, attempting to cover the invasion of salt and bitter sunscreen accosting my pallet. The stick seems to melt and squish softly, manipulated by the dull weak force of pressure against my dry and cracking lips. The ache of my cracked bottom lip coming in like waves, washing in white noise up along the sand of the beach, licking towards the sandy warm feet of people.
