I breathe deep after the long work day. Engine idling, stereo soothing like white noise, steering wheel vibrate gently. Crunch of feet on gravel, leg muscles spasm up the 19 stairs. Closing my door, turning the dull brass knob until it clicks, satisfying like a puzzle being solved. my chest poofs out air as it hits the mattress, face swallowed up by pillows taste of cotton and warm breathes escaping through my nostrils. Door knobs seem to be going out of style, businesses preferring open plan office space, seeing your coworker nurse her hangover, see the jagged facial expressions of your bosses through their tinted windows, smell of cleaner and Old Spice, lunch and bad breathe noisy whir of machines running and phone's ringing I prefer solitude, silence, alone.
