Round, shapely curves twisted upon themselves. Impossible in its order. Seemingly hammered into obedience. Starting with a small pursed mouthpiece and ending with the large bellowing horn opening. The anticipated sound traveling from one end to the other does not disappoint. The low decibels reached cannot be matched by many other instruments. An explosion in the ears that reverberates across capillary cells. The foundation is built, everything else piles on top, one layer after another. Somehow I stand straighter when that blare echoes through the air. Stark, interrupting everything, but when played well and with sensitivity, itís soulful and sorrowful bringing tears to the deepest thoughts in the mind. A knee to be balanced upon, one hand to hold steady, the other needed to force each valve down at any given moment. Mostly the lungs needed to expand and exhale breath, becoming one with those twisting pipes to will those shaking bellows into music.
