The fog had the effect of making the world feel smaller. It was one of those early morning heavy fogs that would often silently waft into London. The light was just coming up, giving the street a very dim colorless look. Everything had been touched by the penetrating mist and had a thin glossy film of slippery wet.
Every early riser had an umbrella in their hand. It was a necessary accessory to people of this town, known for its fog and drizzle. This morning though, they were still closed. Long thin sticks, wrapped in black cloth with a little silver tip.
