Lightning's crooked fingers flex toward the heart of the house. Treetops sway and huddle together as churning winds howl in the distance. Leaves ripped from branch like helpless children from the arms of mothers. Stolen on currents of air and delivered to the orphanage of our worst imagination. Universal forces collide, reckless wanderers without a home. Clouds roll in like hell tide, and assemble above the house, poised like a cat over a mouse hole. Universal feelings collide, the hollow pit of dread expands and is held at bay by arms of shelter . Safety behind the walls and faith beneath the roof. Thunder explodes opening the gates of the sky. Armies of spear headed rain drops gallop toward earth. Smashing, splintering as they hit the shelf of earth. Lightning rides on the wings of thunder and the world flashes electric blue outside the window, gnarled trees and misshapen rocks appear like monsters in the flash. Dragged through space, hammered by wind, and deafened by chaos, the lightning rod stands a sole defender.
