A plastic man with a baseball cap and bat, covered in gold paint, standing on top of a small piece of cold marble, like a statue of a time gone by, the once glistening and gleaming trophy is now worn, chips in the paint for the lack of care, having been shuffled and moved into different card board boxes over many years. The top of the bat is snapped off but the player stands tall as ever as if he could still handle a whizzing fast ball flying at him. I feel a sense of quiet nostalgia for my 11 year old skinny, tomboy self as I pick the trophy up, cold and smooth, once such a treasure. I played boys little league, I held my own, i could be tough with my skinned knees, stringy hair, cap and cool sporty shoes. The smell of the crunchy dirt field and freshly mowed grassy green outfield where I did most of my time come back to me. I wasn’t the best player on the team, but I liked the uniform and the sweet chewy bubble gum popping in my mouth...
