Gusting winds swaying the trees, leaves and branches falling and carpeting the lawn. October daylight fading early as the big round moon comes out, a beacon of glowing white light in the licorice black sky, low and close tonight. i stop and stare, so still and beautiful and mysterious, worries and thoughts slip away silently. i am present, an earth bound astronaut leaving, lifting, flying up through golden stars and black space to the rocky surface, cold and hard, crevices and cracks carved deeply as if someone had used a very large and powerful jack hammer. The smells of fall in the air bring me back, the heavy air is smoke flavored from fires raging orange and red, violently engulfing the brush and trees over acres of land several miles away, while the moon sits quietly watching, seemingly unchanged with time. Are you judging us for our folly? Running mindlessly like a stampede roughshod over your friend mother earth?
