Helicopter, I've never been in one. Apocalyptic grasshoppers in the air. I hear the thrumming of the wings out of the top of their heads. I remember playing army, long before when it was real to me, but in a different way. I had a GI Joe action figure. Fake life-like hair and beard, which only a foreign army would have allowed, not regulation at all. And he had a parachute. I would run up the stairs, getting more  and more out of breath with the ascent and anticipation of parachuting from the three flights up. Like I myself was preparing to make the jump myself, my heart would now be racing. I would imagine all the sounds a child could imagine of war, and fling my future self high into the air and hope the parachute would open. And then. too quickly, he would drift down. And I would do it again, or tire of the routine of playing war, or hear my mother call
