Roughly hewn legs of the stool grounded firmly onto the ringing floorboards, the legs like rolling hills on a chilly autumn afternoon, their rough slicing fingers of wood splinters placated by years of hands and legs rubbing the wood into a smooth crystallised sugary coat. Warm burning timber hangs in the air like a freshener, light and smooth, hanging dust dries my bitter mouth, accosting my throat my body responds with violent coughs, my epiglottis ringing like alarm bells warning of invasion. The woodworking room toasty and warm and salty with sweat, the air soft like a pillow caressing my face and neck, the room filled with heavy clanging metal and throbbing planks of wood clanking as they bow down onto rough work benches. Vices and hammers tinging like a choir of small bells and voices, celebrating the gooey tepid afternoon sun blobbing in through the highly vaulted windows…
